Description

  • Alexandrite, Diamond, Platinum
Centring on an oval alexandrite weighing 12.24 carats, to the circular-cut diamond surround and shoulders, the diamonds together weighing approximately 2.00 carats, mounted in platinum. Ring size: 6¼

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to GRS and Gübelin reports, the alexandrite is natural, of Brazilian origin, with no indications of treatment. Please refer to the reports for details. In our opinion, the alexandrite is of medium deep tone, shows strong colour-change from greenish blue in daylight to purple in incandescent light, generally an eye clean stone. Under the 10x loupe inspection, there are minor fingerprint, crystal and cloud inclusions, one surface reaching fingerprint, with minor chips and pits on facets, and minor abrasions on facet junctions and girdle but all not noticeable to the naked eye. The diamonds are about F to G colour, mainly VS clarity (a few SI). Condition: Platinum ring mount, show signs of normal wear, otherwise overall condition is very good.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
