Catalogue Note

The mid-century floral designs by Fulco di Verdura show the designer's appreciation for Art Nouveau motifs. According to Patricia Corbett, 'Although he made lavish orchid, hibiscus, and arum lily pins, Verdura preferred using precious and semi-precious stones to reproduce single sprays and bunches of wild and garden flowers, such as the 'emerald-eyed' pansy brooch with pavé amethysts and diamonds.' For additional information and an illustration of a similar brooch see Verdura: The Life and Work of a Master Jeweler by Patricia Corbett, page 178.
