Catalogue Note
During 1950s and 1960s, Maqbool Fida Husain's paintings focused on rural villagers and themes. One can see evidence in Richard Bartholomew and Shiv S. Kapur’s book Husain of the recurring figures of Yatra and Chakki stylistically repeated. These archetypes became the basis for his female forms throughout his oeuvre.
