Description
- Laurence Stephen Lowry, R.A.
- Man by the Sea
- signed and dated 1961
- pencil
- 23.5 by 31cm.; 9¼ by 12¼in.
Provenance
Hibbert Fine Art, Sheffield, where acquired by the late husband of the present owner in the early 1960s
Condition
The sheet is fully laid down onto backing card. There are some very light creases to the top of the sheet, thought to be integral to the artist's materials, but otherwise the sheet appears sound. The edges of the sheet are uneven, which appears to be in keeping with the artist's materials. There is some slight discolouration and surface dirt around the extreme edges of the work. There is a very small spot of foxing to the leg of the figure third from the right, only visible upon very close inspection. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in very good overall condition.
The work is float mounted and presented in a painted wooden frame, held under glass.
