Condition
Original canvas. The canvas undulates slightly but otherwise appears sound. There is a pinhole in each of the four corners, and at the centre of each vertical edge, with one or two small specks of associated loss. There are two further small specks of loss, one at the centre of the lower horizontal edge and one near the centre of the left vertical edge, to the white pigment. There are some scattered lines of craquelure, including but not limited to the bottom left corner. There is some light surface dirt, and there are some areas of mould to the varnish layer, most noticeable in the table top. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals four small specks of retouching in the lower left corner, which have been sensitively executed.
The work is presented in a gilt wooden frame with linen slip.
