Original canvas, the canvas is sound. There are areas of craquelure and reticulation throughout the work, most noticeable in the upper left quadrant. There is a stretcher bar mark to the upper and lower horizontal edges. There is a light layer of surface dirt to the work.
Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a thick layer of milky varnish, and re-touching between the craquelure in three or four places, and a few scattered spots of re-touching elsewhere.
