Condition
The canvas has been fully laid down onto board. The board appears sound. There is a slight raised ridge running along the left vertical edge. There are some scattered lines of craquelure and reticulation, most apparent to the darker brown and red pigments and in the lower left corner. There is also a vertical line of craquelure apparent at the top of the right vertical edge. There are some light frame abrasions in places, not visible when the work is framed. There is one pinhole apparent towards the left side of the upper horizontal edge, and two pinholes apparent towards the left side of the lower horizontal edge. There is some light surface dirt in places. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition.
Ultraviolet light reveals several small flecks of retouching along the upper horizontal edge, as well as a diagonal line to the lower half of the central figure and a scattered flecks elsewhere. There are also some signs of retouching to the aforementioned ridge at the left vertical edge.
The work is presented in a painted wooden frame.
