Condition

Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is a stretcher line apparent along the upper horizontal edge. There is craquelure throughout, with a small associated fleck of loss in the upper left quadrant near the vertical edge, with some further extremely small scattered flecks in several places elsewhere, only visible upon very close inspection. There are some traces of light surface dirt in places, and some specks of matter at the lower right vertical edge. Ultraviolet light reveals some flecks of retouching, most apparent in the upper and lower left quadrants, with some further small flecks elsewhere, including a couple of spots to the fruit and some very small flecks in the upper right quadrant. The work is presented in an ornate gilt frame with a linen slip. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
