Sale, Christie's South Kensington, 6th December 2007, lot 59, where acquired by the present owner

The sheet is attached to the mount in two places with tape along the upper edge, and not laid down. There is evidence of adhesive tape from a previous mounting arrangement along the length of the upper edge, not visible in the present mount. The sheet is very slightly cockled in places. The sheet is slightly uneven along the upper edge, in keeping with the Artist's materials, and not visible in the present mount. There are fine lines of craquelure to some of the oil paint, with one or two associated areas of very minor lifting, and lines of reticulation to the black oil paint. There is a very small flake of loss to one spot of black pigment towards the centre of the composition. Subject to the above the work is in very good overall condition, with strong fresh colours throughout.
