This is a workshop variant of the signed original by Ribera in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Strasbourg.¹ While the present version appears to be unrecorded, Spinosa lists four other known replicas: one autograph variant in the Koelliker Collection, Milan; one variant in a private collection in Bologna that Spinosa speculates could be a product of Ribera's workshop, although the oxidised varnish makes the painting hard to assess; and two period copies, one in the Convent of Las Bernardas de Alcalá de Henares, and the other in the Chapel of San José in the Cathedral at Córdoba.
