Condition
The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The panel is cradled and appears secure. The paint surface has an uneven varnish layer. There are some tiny paint losses and some frame rubbing is visible around the edges of the composition. Some discoloured retouchings are visible in natural light on the vertical joins or splits in the panel. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows an opaque varnish layer in some areas, and also shows three vertical lines of retouching corresponding to the vertical splits in the panel and other scattered retouchings within the flesh tones and clothing. Overall the painting is in good condition. The work is framed.

Catalogue Note
The composition derives, with some minor variations to the pose of Saint Anne, from Leonardo's cartoon, usually dated to the first decade of the sixteenth-century, in the National Gallery, London (inv. no. NG6337).
