Condition
The following condition report is provided by Hamish Dewar who is an external specialist and not an employee of Sotheby's: The canvas appears unlined. The paint surface has a slightly uneven and discoloured varnish layer. There are some discoloured retouchings visible in natural light, mainly within the left arm and back of the figure on the right of the composition. There is some slightly raised craquelure mainly visible in the upper part of the composition and some areas of craquelure are slightly lifting. Inspection under ultra-violet light shows a very discoloured and opaque varnish layer and scattered retouchings. Overall the painting is in reasonably good condition. The work is framed.
