The canvas has been recently lined and stretched. The paint surface has suffered a degree of loss, concentrated mainly in the upper right and upper left corners, there are losses in the hand of Salome, in her sleeve and shoulder and other more minor ones scattered throughout. On inspection under ultra violet light old restoration can be seen throughout the darker tones of the background, and some scattered retouchings elsewhere but the face of Salome, her body, and the head of the Saint remain fairly well preserved, with only minor retouchings in the eyes of both, and a thin line of touches in Salome's cheek that is visible to the naked eye. The varnish is very discoloured and thick. This lot is offered unframed.
