- Portrait of a soprano castrato, possibly Adamo Solzi
- oil on canvas
Catalogue Note
The singer in this portrait has been tentatively identified by Professor Piero Gargiulo as the famous soprano castrato, Adamo Solzi, who made his debut in 1766 and was active until 1794, singing in a number of operas by Mozart, most notably Ascanio in Alba. The music manuscript he holds has been identified as Italian composer Gian Francesco de Majo's setting of Antigona, performed in 1768 at the Teatro Alibert, Rome, when Solzi would have been very young, singing the female role of Ermione.
