  • height: 33.8cm., 13 1/4 in.

Provenance

Estate of the artist
Marina Picasso (the artist’s granddaughter; acquired from the above)

Exhibited

Japan, L'Association des Musées d'Art Yomiuri Shimbun Sha, Exposition Pablo Picasso, Collection Marina Picasso, 1986-87, no. CM-18, illustrated in the catalogue
Geneva, Galerie Jan Krugier, Ditesheim & Cie, Le feu et la terre, 2004-05, n.n.

Condition

The ceramic is sound. There is some minor scuffing to the surface, notably around the edges and on the reverse, consistent with age and handling. Some minor irregularities to the shape of the tomette along the edges which are probably original. There are three small spot of painted oxide which appear to have been added post firing but which likely date to the time of execution: on the tip of the owl's head and to the tip of both wings. This work is in overall good condition.
