Catalogue Note
The son of a peasant, Stepan Spiridonovich Egorov was born in 1848 in the Yaroslavl district. In 1877 he moved with his wife and six children to Moscow, where the following year he joined the Society of Merchants. An entrepreneurial property developer, he was also involved in a number of charitable societies. Both he and his brother Vassili were churchwardens, firstly at the church of Saint Parascheva Pyatnitsa on Okhotniy Ryad (destr. 1928) and secondly at the private church of the Imperial Moscow Technical School.
