- Jade
carved in relief to the top with two quails standing on rockwork, below a tall spray of millet issuing from the ground, the stone of an even colour with cloudy-white inclusions

Bruising and small chips to the underside, otherwise good condition.

Ruyi-shaped plaques of this type, often decorated with auspicious motifs, were inlaid into wood and other materials to form the heads of ruyi-sceptres, such as the three examples in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, illustrated in Masterpiece of Chinese Ju-I Sceptres in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 1974, pls. 18-20.
