Catalogue Note

Another rare jade handled cup of closely related design and form in the Palace Museum, Beijing, similarly worked with a high quality continuous frieze of figures, is illustrated in Zhongguo yuqi quanji, vol. 6, Shijiazhuang, 1993, pl. 181. The Palace Museum example, attributed to the Yuan dynasty, differs from the current cup in that the handles are formed from twin boys.
