each carved in the form of a quail with the upper half forming the cover and the body forming the box, its plumage with incised feathers, all supported on its clawed feet

Condition

The boxes and covers are possibly later matched. There is a bruise to the beak of one bird. Minor nicks to flanges of box, and other surface wear.
