Condition

The painting is in good condition and ready to hang. The canvas has been strip-lined along the four tacking edges. There is a fine pattern of faint craquelure which is not visually distracting. Ultra-violet light reveals signs of retouching which are minor given the size of the painting, notably some thin strokes in the figures' waist which appear to address craquelure, in her lower leg, and a small horizontal repair in the waves and hair to the lower left of her head. There are also thin small strokes along the upper framing edge. Presented in a simple gilt frame, with a nameplate and Spanish-style ornaments. The colours in reality are richer and deeper than in the catalogue illustration.
