Condition

The original canvas has not been lined. There is an even reflective varnish throughout the painted surface and some scattered lines of fine craquelure. Ultra-violet light reveals some strokes of retouching addressing old repairs, including: a circa 25 x 5cm arched stroke in the background in the upper left quadrant (patched on the reverse); one stroke in the upper part of the right arm; one T-shaped stroke in the right hip; and one circa 10cm vertical repair in the trousers of the paint in the lower right corner. Other strokes of retouching are also visible in the lower left and lower right corners and there is one very small spot of strengthening in the woman's left eye. Otherwise, this picture presents well and is ready to hang. Presented in a dark wooden frame.
