This quatrefoil panel belongs to a small group of fine Safavid metalwork closely associated with the door plaques said to be from the Dab-i-Imam in Isfahan and formerly in the Harari Collection (Pope 1973, plate 1389). Similar panels with a central panel of dense arabesques were sold in in these rooms, 22 October 1992, lot 179, and in Christie’s London, 20 April 1999, lot 63. This example is characterised by a delicate pierced border, comparable to two examples sold at Christie’s London, 7 April 2011 lot 139A and 26 April 2012, lot 171.
