Description
- fritware and wood (frame)
of square form, decorated in cobalt blue, turquoise and black on a white ground with a design consisting of entwining split-palmettes and floral vines, in a wooden frame, with old collector initials 'A.mdd/Y.idd' to reverse
Condition
Breaks and associated, a crack with associated restoration and including overpainting runs vertically towards from the middle of the edge towards the centre and it is not longer than 12cm., the glaze is slightly pulled in an area, a small chip to the glaze which measure less than 0.5cm. and chips to the corners which are partly covered by the frame, restoration visible also in the corner, as viewed.

Catalogue Note
The design on this tile relates to the 'Dome of the Rock' models, produced in Ottoman Syria, possibly Aleppo (see A. Millner, Damascus Tiles, Munich, 2015, p.274, no.6.74). A tile with a similar design was sold in these rooms 20 April 2016, lot 195.
