Description
- rhinoceros horn
of conical form, rising to a rim furled forming a spout, the body finely carved in low relief with a register of stylised taotie masks on a leiwen ground, set with two openwork handles modelled as a pair of chilong rendered with elongated bodies climbing up and peering over the interior of the vessel, the base with a two-character seal mark, the horn with a rich amber patina, stand
Condition
The larger dragon's left arm is broken off and missing, with an associated chip to the left. The right claw of the smaller chilong is missing, with two nicks to the rim. There is an age crack to one side of the body, approx. 4.5 cm.
