the lower bulb carved and pierced with scholars at leisure in a landscape, all within lotus lappet and ruyi bands, the upper bulb with an attendant carrying a qin to his master, all brightly glazed in buff, ochre and aubergine tones and reserved on a turquoise ground

Purchased in London, 28th January 1968.
Condition
The top area of the jar (approx. 8 cm from the rim downwards) has been restored, and there is an approx. 4.2 by 1 cm chip to the foot that has been re-attached. There are slight glaze flakes and chips particularly at the reticulated areas, and minor staining. There are some burst bubbles and iron spots.
