Overall the condition is good with minor wear to the thick black patina and surface dirt, particularly in the crevices, consistent with age and handling. A few dents are visible at several places, particularly to her proper left shoulder. A small vertical gap is visible in the middle of her proper left braid which seems to be an old restoration. There are a few casting flaws and remains of wax visible at several places. A circular plug visible to her proper right wrist. A few chips are visible along the edges of the marble base consistent with age and handling. A more consistent loss is visible to one angle of the plinth.

Catalogue Note
The seated Nude braiding her hair counts amongst the intimate subjects most privileged by Prieur in his oeuvre. Several versions are known of this model, one of which was formerly in the French Royal collection ( n° 321, now in a private collection). Other versions can be seen in the Wallace Collection in London, at the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore, in the Metropolitain Museum, New York, and formerly in the Abbott Guggenheim collection (cf. M. Schwartz, op.cit.).
