Condition
Overall surface abrasions with some chips and losses, wear and small divots. Restoration throughout and some plaster fills. The sculpture was broken horizontally through the bottom of the lyre across to below the knees. There are plaster repairs to the legs and breaks in the drapery in this area, particularly in back of sculpture, including an iron support. The proper left foot and upper ankle have also been repaired because of a crack in the base. There is also a patch on his left shin. His genitalia are lacking and have been replaced by a plaster fig leaf. The proper left arm was broken at the wrist and the hand. The fingers are restored and one is loose. The nose is a restoration. The quality of the hair and some of the drapery and the hand on the proper right side indicate that the piece may have been re-carved, in part, from an earlier sculpture.
