Condition

Overall very good original condition. The copper with some rubbing and small associated losses to the patina throughout, consistent with age and gentle handling, revealing the red layer beneath the patina. Concentrated areas of rubbing and patina loss occur on the bottom portion of the box along the edges of the intersecting branches and in a localized area approximately one inch below the upper rim. The rim of the box and lid with concentrated rubbing and losses, only visible when the lid is removed. The enameled surfaces with some minor irregularities throughout inherent in the making, not visually detractive. The lowest grape with a small loss to the enamel measuring approximately 1/8 inch wide, visible in the catalogue illustration. The enamel presents with rich coloration, variation and subtle iridescence when viewed in person. The interior of the box with a later added velvet lining. A beautifully rendered, naturalistic composition displaying impressive scale and strong visual presence when viewed in person.
