Condition
Overall very good condition. The shade with approximately 25 cracks to the glass tiles dispersed throughout. The lamp has recently been stabilized and conserved by a professional Tiffany conservator. Two glass tiles have been sensitively replaced with period Tiffany glass that is highly complementary and harmonious to the shade. The hairlines noted above were also sensitively stabilized. The shade with very light surface soiling to the adjacent contours of the shade leading and occasionally within the rippled glass texture. The rare “Fern” base is in very good condition, displaying superb casting and chasing and a particularly rich, variegated patina with green and russet brown tones. The base with some light surface soiling to the recessed areas. Two of the sockets and pull-chains appear to be from the period; one socket and pull-chain appear to be replaced. With a replaced base plate. With a period Tiffany heat cap in very good condition. An exceptionally strong and dynamic example of the model displaying an unusual and artistic glass selection and color palette. The shade is executed in an outstanding selection of vigorously rippled glass, imparting the lamp with wonderful visual movement and a surface texture that evokes the texture of peacock feathers. The color palette of the shade displays an array of purples, mauves and ochres, with accents of bright yellow, green and blue. When viewed in person, the purples present with a slightly cooler hue compared to the printed catalogue illustration. The shade and base pairing is particularly successful, heightening the sculptural presence of the lamp and the highlighting the complexity of both the shade and base designs.
