Description

Of elongated design, the front and hinged handle set with seed pearls, circular-cut diamonds and step-cut sapphires, the reverse with an engraved pattern centred on the monogram HWR set with rose diamonds and calibré-cut sapphires, storing a pencil, the three push-pieces collet-set with cabochon sapphires, opening to reveal an interior with hinged powder and lipstick compartments, and a mirror concealing a storage compartment with clip, and a writing surface, measuring approximately 90 x 50 x 15mm, signed Cartier, numbered, to an oval link chain, length approximately 280mm.

Condition

Hoop fitting at end of pencil stamped 585 for 14 carat gold. Interior signed Cartier Paris, numbered 46979 and 585. Pearls of white body colour, with green and rose overtones, minor imperfections and light scratches to nacre surfaces, pearls well-matched, two areas of broken pearls re-stuck, with visible glue residue. Sapphires mid blue, transparent, with typical inclusions visible under magnification, some surface-reaching, some areas of minor chipping and wear to facet edges. One step-cut sapphire measuring approximately 5.8 x 4.3 x 3mm, calculated to weigh approximately 0.75 carats. Diamonds bright and lively, estimated clarity VS on average. Estimated total diamond weight approximately 3.00 - 4.00 carats. Hinged lid and inner compartments intact, closing securely. Mirror with some discolouration. Writing surface with discolouration and marks from use. Clip with good tension. Comb deficient. Pencil intact, lead needs replacing. Light scratches to surfaces consistent with wear and use. In good condition, commensurate with age and use.
