the baluster body rising from a recessed base to a short narrow-ribbed neck with everted rolled rim, covered overall with a rich lustrous brown-black glaze freely painted in russet slip with three large stylized birds in flight, the mouth and base unglazed

Condition

Chips to rim and neck flange, the largest being approximately 1 1/8 inch in length. The body with a few glaze gaps, frits, and chips (the largest chip being approximately 3/8 inch in length), with some of these areas filled in. The base with one hairline crack across the diameter, two cracks on the footring (the largest being 2 inches), and repaired chips on the footring.
