- Eight Armchairs from the First Class Dining Room of the S.S. Normandie
- mahogany, bronze and fabric upholstery
Condition
Overall in good condition. The wood surfaces have been sensitively refinished and present with some surface scratches, small abrasions, and a few areas of discoloration and a few minor scattered restorations consistent with age and use. The front corners of the armrests with wear to the wood edges consistent with use. Four armchairs with restorations to the proper right back leg, sensitively undertaken and not affecting the solidity of the chairs. A few armchairs with sensitively undertaken restoration to the striated part of the wood around the seat, not visually distracting. The bronze surfaces with wear to the gilding, minor surface scratches and abrasions consistent with age and gentle use. The armchairs are upholstered with simple under upholstery muslin, with visible staples and the fabric presents with light surface soiling, yellowing and a few stains throughout. A rare set of eight armchairs from the Normandie with sculptural presence when viewed in person.
