Condition
Overall in very good condition consistent with age and use. The wicker is in good condition with occasional minor losses and a few areas of lifting. One chair with approximately 10 small nails on the reverse of the backrest to the proper left, which appears to have been used to keep the wicker in place; and is likely a period restoration. Another chair where the stick used to hold the wicker along the bottom edge of the backrest is likely replaced. The wicker appears to have been sensitively cleaned and slightly lacquered at some point in the history of the chairs. The chromium-plated tubular steel with pitting, rubbing, minor surface scratches and corrosion consistent with age and use. One chair with slightly variant color to the plating, which shows more yellow, most likely from oxidation. This chair appears as the third chair in the catalogue illustration. This chair shows the same degree of wear as the other examples, but has a slightly different tone to the wicker and is possibly assembled to the set.
An extraordinary avant-garde design by René Herbst.
