Condition
Overall in our opinion the desk presents well with attractive color and grain. There was previously some looseness to the stretcher joints. There are areas where the stretchers connect where there is a slight lifting to the veneers. These areas have been stabilized for the purposes of the exhibition, however they would benefit from being more securely restored - another consequence of the stretcher not being fully stabilized is that the uprights are not currently aligned precisely, causing the marble top to not sit completely flush. The drawer case has been professionally re-covered in calf skin. There is a minor surface abrasion to the front of the lower drawer pull - this is visible in the catalogue illustration. The marble top remains in overall excellent condition with no damage detected.
