  • "Chicorée" Dining Table
  • mahogany with hardwood and fruitwood marquetry

Literature

Alastair Duncan, Louis Majorelle: Master of Art Nouveau, London, 1991, pp. 177 and 180

Condition

Please note that the correct title of this Dining Table is "Chicorée." Please visit laitexier.com for additional photos of the table, including photos of the marquetry of the table top. When viewed in person, the table presents with a warmer and richer brown color than seen in the catalogue illustration. The wood surfaces have been sensitively refinished and present with a few light surface scratches and minor edge abrasions consistent with age and gentle use. The top with a few small and sensitively undertaken restorations, concentrated along the edges and only visible upon close inspection. The top with a few minor hairline cracks to the veneer and one visible construction line, not visually distracting. The legs with a few minor expected edge abrasions along the edges and a few sensitively undertaken restorations, which don't affect their solidity and are only visible upon close inspection. The wood on the legs with a few small crevices, superficial and not visually distracting. On one side, the supports of the top, to the underside of the top, are slightly uneven, which does not prevent the table top from being stable and even. A sculptural table by Majorelle with a dynamic shape, great naturalist carved details to the legs and beautiful marquetry to the top.
