Condition

Overall in good condition, consistent with age and gentle use. The parchment surfaces has been stabilized and presents with scattered scuffs, surface scratches, staining, shallow dents and minor discoloration throughout consistent with age and use. The top surface with minor seam separation of the parchment which has been filled in at some point, with a faint rectangular line at the back central area measuring approximately 5 ½ by 8 ¾ in. The upper trim of the parchment with minor flaking and lifting to the veneer throughout, concentrated to the top proper left front corner, that has been filled at some point in the commode's history. The top central drawer with lifting of the parchment and flaking from an older restoration in two areas, each measuring approximately 3 in. and with minor bubbling throughout. The central proper left drawer with a minor scratch measuring approximately 2 in. The handles and eschuteon previously made of ivory have been replaced with ivorine in keeping with the original design. The base with minor seam separations to the joints of the legs. The legs with a few expected surface scratches, wear and minor dents consistent with age and gentle use. The back of the commode has been replaced and painted white at some point in the history of the piece. A good example of French neoclassical design from André Arbus.
