Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Jaeger-LeCoultre certificate, an instruction manual, a loupe and a presentation box.

In anciꦗent times, thꦕe practical need for timekeeping was one of the primary reasons for the study of astronomy and time keeping is among the oldest branches of astronomy. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication is fully dedicated to astronomical timekeeping, paying tribute and demonstrating the brand’s attachment to its horological roots.

Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication combines all the richness of haute horology on the wrist: a flying tourbillon, zodiac calendar with sidereal time and minute repeater. The most striking feature of the watch is the flying tourbillon which is fixed to the revolving dial and thus creating a complication which seems to orbit the axis of the watch. Acting as hour hand, the tourbillon shows not only the mean time as found on all wristwatches, but the time unit used by astronomers to keep track of the direction of the stars, sidereal time. To highlight the celestial elements of the watch, a zodiac calendar is placed on the edge of the dial together with a month indication. Beneath the flying tourbillon, the allure of the poetic sky chart dial of the northern hemisphere and many of its constellations are displayed. Adding yet another layer of ornamentation, Master Grande Tradition Grande Complication features a minute repeater complication replete with crystal cathedral gongs which are directly attached to the case back to amplify the sound. Together with a new striking mechanism called trébuchet hammers, delivering 80% additional power to that of ordinar🐎y gong mechanisms, the watch offers a miraculously clear and unparalleled resonance at the simple push of the slide.

Each of the three combinations🔯 is considered a complication in its own right and the boldest combination of the three in the smallest place imaginable is the embodiment of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s finest craftsmanship. The pre🍰sent lot is number 6 out of a total of 75 made and is offered in mint condition.
