Catalogue Note
In 2014, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled an amazing series, Hybris Artistica collection, comprising twelve unique timepieces that are built upon the expertise of Jꦬaeger-LeCoultre. The twelve watches are all housed in specially crafted cases with unique design and exquisite complications that all combine to symbolise the horological excellence of the maison.
The Duometre Spherotourbillon Enamel created for the Hybris Artistica collection is based on the Duometre Spherotourbillon wristwatch, yet in a precious dial made of blue paillonné enamel.
The paillons are tiny motifs or chips from a block of silver and are to be handled with excessive care🦄 for the fragility of the material. Once the enamel is past its 800 degree Celsius cooking, the tiny paillons are to be revealed and brought to the surface. The artisans have to distribute the paillons harmo🍌niously on the enamel and then begin the difficult task of polishing the enamel without scratching the surface. With dozens of various procedures, the enamel and the paillons are swirled together to make a beautiful contrasting lights and darks of the night sky. Echoing this picturesque dial, the case band is pierced and engraved with a design inspired by the Doge's Palace in Venice. It is then filled with matching blue to reiterate the overall harmony.
At the heart of the Duometre Sph🔜erotourbillon beats the calibre 382, a newly developed dual-axis tourbꦕillon with a flyback seconds feature. This allows the wearer to precisely set the time to the second, and by running on a dual-train system it does not affect the beat of the escapement.
The combination of paillonné enamel and spherotourbillon is the testimony of how Jaeger-LeCoultre has been creatively developing highly decorative timepieces with exquisite complications into unique treasures. Released in a limited series of 3 examples, this is the first time a Hybris Artistica version Duometre Spherotourbillon Enamel has been offered in auction since its production ꦰin 2014.
