Condition

The movement is running at time of cataloguing, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement. Case in overall very good condition with light wear consistent with age and use. Case bands and lug areas with some very light surface markings and wear. A small indentation to the upper right lug near 1. an area of scuffing to the left side bezel. Some light markings to the crown. Light markings to the case back. Case back factory inscribed "Commemoration 1997 ." Dial and movement in excellent condition. ***Please be advised that the bands on this watch are made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator and crocodile) and thus not sold with the watch, they are for display purposes only. Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, Attestation, and Extract from the Archives confirming sale on October 27th, 1997 with commemorative text on the case back. Also with a Republic and Canton of Geneva Chronometer Certificate dated November 26, 1996. Together with a silver medal commemorating the inauguration of Patek Philippe's manufactory, a 1997 Commemorative Watches book, a leather bi fold with additional booklets, sales tags, and a presentation box with outer packaging.

Inspired by the reference 2441, popularly known as the Eiffel Tower, the reference 5500 Pagoda, was spec♍ially produced in 1997 to mark the inauguration of Patek Philippe's new watchmaking center in Geneva, Switzerland. They were produced in a limited series of 1100 in yellow gold, 250 in white gold, and 150 in platinum. Once completed, the necessary production tools were destroyed to ensure that this model can no longer be produced.
