Condition

Executed on buff wove paper, not laid down. The sheet is sandwiched between the glass and backing board and gently undulating. There is a thin strip of tape along the verso of all four edges. There are a few tiny repaired tears to the extreme edges, notably to the centre of the right edge (approximately 2.5cm. long) and two at the lower part of the right edge (each approximately 3cm. long). There is a tiny puncture to the sheet in the lower left quadrant, just below Neptune's beard. There are some flattened creases in places, including a horizontal flattened crease to the lower part of the left edge (approximately 5cm long), some vertical flattened creases towards the centre of the right edge with associated small specks of paint loss as well as a horizontal flattened crease towards the centre of the right edge (approximately 10cm. long). There is some bubbling to the dark purple pigment of the two figures which is inherent to the artistic process. There are some minor accretions to the sky and water in the upper left quadrant, possibly studio dirt. This work is in overall good condition.
