Description
- Gold/sapphire/emerald/enamel/ turquoise
Decorated with horizontal stripes in black enamel and set with lines of calibré-cut buff-top sapphires and emeralds to the sides and clasp, the sides applied with panels of turquoise within borders of black enamel, opening to reveal two lidded powder compartments, a lipstick holder and a mirror, measuring approximately 83 x 57 x 16mm, signed Cartier, numbered, French assay and indistinct maker's marks.
Condition
Stamped with French assay marks for 18 carat gold to border of mirror, lipstick and lipstick holder, both lids and one base of powder compartments, and to handles of both powder puffs. Partial, indistinct makers mark to base of one powder compartment. Signed Cartier Paris Londres New York, stamped Made in France and numbered 01 071 to lip of box. Turquoise varying shades of blue and green with areas of visible matrix, opaque, with scratches to surfaces and areas of chipping, some areas restuck and restored. Enamel with areas of wear and chipping. Sapphires mid to deep blue, emeralds mid green, all transparent, with typical inclusions visible to the naked eye, some surface-reaching fissures and areas of light wear to surfaces. Hinged lids and clasps in good working order. Lipstick holder and lipstick intact, in good working order. Powder puffs intact, with powder residue. Mirror intact, slightly loose in frame, with small areas of minor discolouration to edges. Scratches to surfaces consistent with age and use. Overall condition good. Gross weight approximately 196.2 grams.
