Condition

Standard wear, surface abrasions, and very minor losses. A few small cracks to mounts (stable). Two oak strips added to underside of lid for support and consolidation. Age cracks in the top and a few on each side. Overall lovely quality and good overall condition.

For a nearly identical coffer, see the Victoria and Albert Museum, no. M. 249-1921, called a "coach coffer." The initials on the lid are for the owner, who was probably a merchant.
