Provenance

Mademoiselle Jeanne-Marie Dusart;
Her deceased sale, Mechelen, Le Roy, 6-7 June 1864, lot 73;
There acquired by Mademoiselle Reynaerts.

Condition

There is an old glue relining which is stable. The painting is under a very dirty, uneven and discolored varnish. The catalogue image is too dark and more detail in the background is visible in the actual painting. Overall, the paint surface has been quite well preserved and the retention of detail in the figure and dog is very good. Some of the darks of the background foliage have sunken and have lost some of their definition. Some minor scuffing at extreme edges. Under UV: can't see through the thick, milky varnish. This painting would benefit from cleaning and sensitive restoration which should greatly improve the overall appearance and render a very attractive image. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
