Condition

Standard surface abrasions, golden patina beneath brownish lacquer. Small hole behind her proper right leg and next to pedestal (old casting flaw). Minor losses to wood base.

Catalogue Note

While this statuette might be interpreted as an allegorical figure of Wisdom, it is more likely to be a representation of the Virgin of the Annunciation. For a similar pose and drapery, see the figure of St. Catherine by Alessandro Vittoria on the altar of S. Giuliano, Venice, illustrated in Planiscig (cit., figs 536 and 539).
