The old glue relining is firm and stable. Under a dirty and yellowed old varnish. Overall the paint surface has been well preserved though, perhaps, slightly pressed in some areas. There are a few tiny paint losses at lower right and left. Examination under UV light: it is difficult to read through the old varnish. There are some more recent retouches on top of the varnish on the shoulder of the Virgin at left, in her drapery along the edge of her left knee, along the tree trunk, on the right side of the angel's head at upper right, and in the background just behind the Virgin's head. A few other minor ones scattered here and there. This painting presents an attractive image and could be hung in its present state. However, it might benefit from a light cleaning and freshening of the varnish. In a carved and gilt wood frame.
