A recent glue relining is flat and stable. The surface is clean and the painting is presentable. The paint surface overall has been very well preserved and there is lovely retention of detail and coloration. Examination under UV light reveals retouching along the upper edge and some scattered in the upper background. Other very small, cosmetic retouches here and there on the saint and devil, and in the background. These have been well applied and there is no need for work. In a simple gilt wood frame.

This painting relates closely to the Saint Michael Archangel by Procaccini, painted on panel and of almost identical size, in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Milan (inv. no. 147).
