- Parkfield Place, near Ipswich
- oil on canvas
Provenance
Anonymous sale ("The Property of a Lady"), London, Sotheby's, 24 November 1999, lot 93.
Literature
G. Reynolds, The Early Paintings and Drawings of John Constable, New Haven and London 1996, Text vol., cat. no. 09.71, Plates vol., reproduced in color plate 802.
Condition
The canvas is lined. The paint surface has been somewhat flattened in areas due to the relining process, but the painting reads quite well beneath a clear varnish. UV light reveals some scattered spots of retouching in the foreground below the tree, a few spots in the foliage found in the lower left and lower right quadrants. The painting appears to be in good condition and can be hung in its present state. Offered in a carved giltwood frame.
