The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The canvas on which this work is painted seems to have a original horizontal join above the figure, just at the top of the child's head. There is an addition of about half an inch on the left side which is not original, and there may be another 1 inch addition on the right edge. There is also restoration across the top. Although there is a horizontal crease about 1 inch from the top edge, this edge does seem to be original. The child has received only a few isolated spots of retouching. The condition is very good throughout most of the picture.
