The following condition report has been provided by Simon Parkes of Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc. 502 East 74th St. New York, NY 212-734-3920, simonparkes@msn.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's. The painting is on an unlined canvas. The paint layer is nicely preserved, and while it is tempting to say that the picture has thinned, these areas in the landscape have been lightly painted on purpose. It has been recently cleaned and should hang in its current state. Relining the picture could stabilize some of the craqueleure but is not recommended.
