Condition
The color (in contrast with the catalogue image) is darker and slightly redder in reality. There are generally chips and surface abrasions throughout that are standard with age of object. There was a clean break (restored) below her abdomen and through a narrow portion of drapery. There have been restorations to areas on all three clouds (plaster fill). There has been restoration to her proper left knee and upper thigh area and small restoration to her chin. There are remainders of polychromy. The sculpture is beautifully modelled and the surface is fresh.

Catalogue Note
The serene facial expression and the precise billowing drapery composed of multiple twists and curves of fabric creating a dynamic pattern of light and shade are comparable to those details in the work by the Sienese sculptor Giuseppe Mazzuoli. The arrangement of folds echoes the articulated structure on Mazzuoli's pair of marble angels in San Donato, Siena and a pair of terracotta angels that were part of the Arthur M. Sackler collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 29 January 2010, lot 432 (Gentilini and Sisi, op. cit., nos. 188-191) as well as a marble group of the Madonna and Child and Saint John in Palazzo Sansedoni, Siena (op. cit., p.199).
